MOSCOW, Jan 16 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Audit Chamber head Alexei Kudrin suggested on Wednesday the government create a floor for comprehensive discussion of a bill on protection of the Runet, the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet.
“My proposal to the government is to set up a floor for discussion by all known expert groups in this industry to consider (the initiative) thoroughly, because apart from the issues of security, there are issues of development and investment in these segments. It’s not only a social matter,” Kudrin said at the Gaidar Forum.
“The issue is so sensitive and crucial that the bill should be discussed in detail.”
The State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, received the bill in December 2018 to ensure sustainable functioning of the Internet in the country in case of a threat from abroad. It stipulates installation of equipment to control fulfilment of a ban of access to illegal information on the networks of connection operators.
